Green-winged Orchid

Anacamptis morio

This is a small purple orchid with distinctive green-striped wings, which grows in ‘good’ species-rich meadows (often with cowslips), in pastures and rocky hillsides, mainly on calcareous soils.  May is the best month to search for it and by mid-June it has usually gone past its best.
