Recording all plants growing wild in Somerset, not just the rarities!

12 Great Breach Wood

Park on roadside (ST506325).

One of Somerset’s largest nature reserves. Mixed woodland and downland with many paths and woodland rides. Splended views of the surrounding countryside can be admired from the western slopes of the woods. Many species of butterfly and plant are found in the clearings and on the steep south and west facing slopes. In some seasons orchids are plentiful, particularly Greater Butterfly and Pyramidal. One of the more unusual trees in the woodland is Small-leaved Lime. The sunny slopes provide habitat for short downland plants such as Wild Thyme, Common Rock-rose and both Common and Lesser Centaury.
